Knit a Super Quick & Easy Asymmetrical Shawl

***You can purchase an INEXPENSIVE AD-FREE PDF of this pattern on Ravelry HERE or Etsy HERE***

Knitted projects don't have to be complicated to be beautiful, in fact sometimes the beauty comes not just from the stitches, but from the colours and yarn you choose. This shawl is actually the first shawl I've ever knitted, I've definitely always been more drawn to scarves than shawls (I can never seem to get their triangular shape to sit nicely around my neck!)

I knitted this asymmetrical shawl for my daughter in this fun happy rainbow cake from CiceBebe (shade 110 Rainbow), and she's already whisked it away as soon as I finished filming the tutorial - I definitely class a pre-teens approval as a win!

This shawl can be knitted in any weight yarn you like, you will just end up with a thicker, or airier shawl depending on whether you choose a heavier or lighter yarn.

Ideally for an adult sized shawl you want to knit until the shawl measures 150cm along its longest edge (the one with the eyelets), but don't let that stop you from knitting a bigger version if you really want to be snuggly when wearing it.

Materials Needed

  • 200g of DK yarn
  • 4mm circular knitting needle (80-120cm is ideal)
  • Large Eye Tapestry Needle
  • Embroidery Scissors

Stitches Used

  • K - Knit.
  • Kfb - Knit front back.
  • K2tog kbl - Knit two together through the back loops.
  • Yo - Yarn Over.

Written Instructions

  • Foundation Row: Cast on 5 stitches using the Long Tail cast on method.
  • Row 1: k4, kfb. TURN
  • Row 2 : k2, yo, k until 2 stitches remain, k2tog tbl. TURN
  • Row 3: k until 1 stitch remains, kfb. TURN
  • Rest of Shawl: Repeat rows 2 & 3 until scarf is desired length.
  • To Finish: Cast off knitwise on a Row 2 repeat - omitting the yo and k2tog tbl.

I am delighted with this pattern! My yarn loves it, too. It wasn’t cooperating with previous patterns I tried to force it into 😉 but it’s happy now. Thank you for such a simple but elegant design.
