How to Knit Grid Stitch

Grid stitch is a brilliantly versatile reversable stitch pattern. It works up in an easy 4 row repeat and has a beautifully textured fish. Grid stitch is also sometimes known as the Hurdle Stitch - they are identical in everything except name 🙂

Stitches Used

  • k - knit
  • p - purl

Written Pattern

Foundation Row: Cast on an ODD number of stitches.

Row 1: k1, *k1, p1* Repeat from *to* until two stitches remain, k2

Row 2: k1, *p1, k1* Repeat from *to* until two stitches remain, p1, k1

Row 3&4: knit all stitches

Rest of Project: Repeat rows 1-4 until project is desired size.

Final Row: Cast off  knitwise on a Row 4 repeat
